Founded in November 1980 as a work of the Society of Jesus, JRS today operates in 50 countries, providing assistance to refugees in camps and cities, internally displaced persons, asylum seekers in urban areas, and those held in detention centers. The main areas of work include education, emergency assistance, healthcare, livelihood activities, and social services.Jesuit Refugee Service Bosnia and Herzegovina (JRS BiH), a non-profit humanitarian organization, is seeking to recruit a Legal Guardian for unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors and vulnerable separated children within the project Reception Center for Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Minors and Vulnerable Separated Children.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

Hold a university degree in Social Work, Pedagogy, Psychology, or another field of Social Sciences

Have relevant experience in child protection, social services, or similar positions (experience with unaccompanied minors is an asset)

Have a very good command of the English language

Have a very good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

Understand the role of a faith-based organization in humanitarian work and ensure its mission and values are reflected in their work

Be willing to work with people from diverse cultures

Have the ability to work in a team

Be willing to engage in dynamic and challenging work

Possess responsibility, kindness, and a willingness to help

Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Job Description

Main Responsibilities

The Legal Guardian is responsible for the protection and well-being of unaccompanied minors accommodated at the Reception Center in Sarajevo. The position requires close cooperation with relevant institutions, JRS staff, and beneficiaries to ensure adequate care, protection, and support for minors.

Key Responsibilities

Acting as a legal guardian for unaccompanied minors, ensuring their rights and best interests are protected

Providing psychosocial support andguidance to minors

Coordinating with relevant authorities and institutions (Centers for Social Work, schools, healthcare institutions, etc.)

Supporting minors in accessing education, healthcare, and other services

Preparing regular reports and maintaining accurate records

Participating in case conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings

Collaborating with project staff and external stakeholders to optimize care and protection measures

Reporting to the Reception Center Manager and subsequently to the Country ManagerApplication and Selection Process
