The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN’s global development network, working in 177 countries and territories. In line with its 2021-2025 Country Programme, UNDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH) focuses on sustainable and inclusive growth, people-centred governance and social cohesion. The CPD outcomes correspond to 3 outcomes of the UNSDCF 2021-2025 (outcome 1 on resilient, sustainable and inclusive growth, outcome 4 on accountable and transparent governance systems, and outcome 5 on social cohesion and trust). Context

As part of UNDP BiH’s Good Governance (GG) Sector, the Local Development Programme is a portfolio of thematic projects funded by an array of various donors:

1. Country Infrastructure Development Project

2. Economic Governance for Growth Phase II Project

3. Project for Improving Performance of Local Services In light of the above, under the overall supervision of the Local Development Portfolio Analyst, the Communications Specialist will support the implementation, visibility and communication activities, ensuring effective and successful communication and promotion of programme activities. The Communication Specialist will also ensure the execution of coherent communication in full cooperation and coordination with UNDP’s Communications Unit.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Local Development Portfolio Analyst, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Supports alignment of Project communication strategies, plans and activities with UNDP BIH CO communication strategies, plans and guidelines, in close cooperation with Communication Unit;

• Supports effective implementation of Local Development Programme Project communication strategies and plans;

• Provides inputs related to Local Development Programme communication plans, actions and results to the Communication Unit;

• Supports organization of public relations (PR) events and campaigns related to the Local Development Programme Projects;

• Supports moderation of Local Development Programme project’s events/conferences when required; • Supports administration Local Development Programme Projects section within UNDP BIH CO webpage; • Produces content for UNDP webpage and social network;

• Develops other communications content tailored for online communications

• Supports development of media advisories and press releases in coordination with Communication Unit;

• Produces periodical and ad hoc reports on communications activities, including analysis of media coverage/clipping;

• Photographs and produces content to promote the projects, its partners and targeted audiences;

• Establishes and maintains archive of photo and video materials for Local Development Programme Projects;

• Ensures that the use of online channels is in line with UNDP HQ and CO guidelines and best practices; • Ensures that communications and PR project documents prepared by the incumbent are written using gender sensitive language;

• Ensures that all communications material and media related to Local Development Programme Projects are gender sensitive and evaluated from the gender point of view

Requirements

Required experience

3 years of experience in • producing web content and high-quality videos and photos is considered as an asset. • producing communication materials for print and online media; • basic understanding of web development (HTML, PHP, etc.) technologies; • good command of information technology, Internet, graphic design software, video pro-duction equipment, CMS platforms, audio-visual material elaboration, Photoshop and other media software; • demonstrated experience working in complex environments; • familiarity with UN system and UNDP rules and procedures; • excellent communication skills, oral and writing; • knowledge and experience in volunteering, and willingness to learn about volunteering

Living conditions and remarks

UN Community Volunteers are expected to be recruited locally and work within their community, they are therefore not expected to travel to the duty station and are not eligible for a settling in grant. In addition, UN Community Volunteers should not require reintegration back into their locales upon completion of their service. Therefore, there is no entitlement to a resettlement allowance. The applicable volunteer living allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses.
